While serving with D Company, 69th Engr Bn at a camp south of Can Tho, VC attacked a nearby village on May 14th, 1971. We went on alert and I was sent to the guard tower in the motor pool to help guard the helicopter landing pad for the medevac of a little girl wounded in the attack. As I remember it, her family was attacked by six VC and three of the VC were killed shortly thereafter. I saw the girl briefly as she was carried past my guard tower to the helicopter. The little village, as best as I can remember, was called Ky Tek, but I've not found any maps which mention it. It was very close to our little camp, which we called Tan Hoa (spelling uncertain). In my journal for that day I wrote: "Saw a girl who had been blowed up by a grenade. Three VC were killed today." Does anyone out there remember that event, our camp called Tan Hoa, or a village called Ky Tek?
