I was the company clerk of D Co, 69th Engr Bn. I remember the guys who signed in the day before Tet, and one was scared to death just to be there--he did get wasted that first attack. One of our NCO's, a Msgt Strout, I believe, helped keep Charlie from doing more damage than he did. The thing I remember most was the smell of all the fuel running down the perimeter road. It's the grace of God that some tracer didn't ignite it. Boy, that was a long time ago.
