I was one of the members of the HHC reaction platoon that responded that night. We were primarily personnel weenies and cooks and the last thing we thought we would ever be involved in was a fire fight. I remember that night well. It seems to me that this cite is missing the 69th Engineer Bn badge, a badge that represents a unit that not only built the housing for everybody at the airfield but was the first to react to defend it on Jan 31. Between that one small platoon of HHC and a few men from Co D,of the 69th, we held them and kept the VC from doing further damage to the aircraft on the airfield, not to mention the fuel tankers parked along the road. All of us who were there that night especially owe those 4 men who died on guard duty that night, they did not go quietly. The fire fight that took thier lives warned us in time to react and stop them.
