Hi Pat,
In early 72, just before I arrived, the Airfield Comm. Center had been handed over to the 39th Bn from the 52nd. The 39th was sub to the 1st Sig. Bd. then. Our overseas uniform unit insignia was the 1st Sig Bd. (right Arm). I expect it was the same for the 52nd guys too. When the 39th Sig Bn and 1st Sig Bd. pulled out of Vietnam near the end of 72 we were then authorized to use the STRATCOM insignia as our overseas unit patch. The 39th went back to Europe, where they still are, and the 1st Sig. Bd went to Korea, where they still are. The STATCOM HQ was at Ft. Huachuca Az. but we reported there then and not to the 39th in Europe or the 1st Sig in Korea.
There were 1st Sig Bd. HQ people someplace in Vietnam, whether there were any in the Can Tho area in conjunction with being the 52nd Sig Bn's parent command, I do not know and can not say. You guys will have to keep me honest and enlightened to how things were when you were there.
Just being there about a year towards the end, I am not an expert on Vietnam, but it is due to our collective effort that the site has gotten this far.
The text on picture 159 has been changed to:
"159. The Bank building in downtown Can Tho was used as the area's Signal Corps headquarters in 1967. 52nd Sig. Bn. for sure, 1st Sig. Bd.?"
