If I hear another documentary on TV about how successful the Viet Cong and the NVA were in their now "famous" Tet offensive, I'm going to go NUTS! True, the result of the shocking Tet Offensive did cause much more unrest in the U.S. about the war, but it was an unintended benefit of the Tet Offensive that the VC and the NVA had not expected. The public opinion reaction in the U.S. was a much greater surprise to them then they ever expected. The VC and the NVA had planned for well over year to pull off this operation. They maticulously moved in weapons and supplies for a long period of time. And waited. And, give them credit, they did a good job. And, to our discredit, we blew it by now seeing the signs that something was coming. And they fully expected the offensive to cause a wide scale rally from the Vietnamese people to help overthrow the government and defeat the U.S. It was their full intent to WIN and WIN BIG. Well, they LOST and LOST BIG. They lost everywhere big-time. They caught us (and that was our own stupidity.....many warnings and signs were ignored) with our pants down and they still got SLAUGHTERED. In the Tet Offensive, they lost upwards of 70,000 troops. It was a massacre. Their victory in the public opinion polls in the U.S. was far greater than they ever imagined. Their intent was to WIN, or at least drive the U.S out. They didn't come close. And they never rallied the people to their side.....that was going to be their trump card. The greatest proof of that was all the people they murdered during the Tet Offensive who would not come over to their side. The sinful murders at Hue and other cities is proof of that. The next time some media or hollywood jackoff spouts off about how the U.S. got their butt kicked in Vietnam........well......well.....I guess there isn't much you can do except suffer listening to it. But it makes me CRAZY. You see, there were a lot of people on the LEFT during that time that wanted us to lose. Disgusting.
