To Kent Sloan:
I read with interest your letter regarding your trip to the Mekong Delta. I was there from 69-70 with the USAF stationed in Can Tho. It sounds as though you were interested in finding your old building where you worked.
You mentioned crossing on the ferry from the Vinh Long area into Can Tho and about if you traveled straight, you went into Ben Xe Moi. Did you turned Left and go into Can Tho down towards where Eakin Compound, the Catholic Orphanage, etc. used to be? Do you remember the old Hotel #3 compound that housed the USO? That's where I lived and worked with the USAF Office of Special Investigations....in that same compound. We worked closely with all of the intelligence agencies in the area including the CIA front, "Phoenix". I'm interested to know if that old Hotel is still there that was in the compound that also housed the USO? Like you, I'm interested what is still there. I don't know if you passed this area or not when you were there.
And I think you're right...........it sucked in 1970 and I imagine it still sucks. The place always stunk from raw sewage, motor bike fumes, and garbage that was everywhere. I'm just curious.
By the way, I did not know that the correct pronounciation of Can Tho is Can Ta. All these years later I find that out.
