I really think the government is finally taking some responsibility for its actions. I was diagnosed, treated and awarded disability. However, my first daughter, born in 1974 was born with severe spina bifida, cleft palate, both kidneys on the left side and paralyzed from the waist down. She passed away in 1986, long before the VA decision to treat vietnam veterans children with this birth defect. They refuse to even see my oldest daughter 29, who has spinal problems. I can't imagine them taking so long, since birth defects in vietnamese children was the primary reason for the decision to end spraying agent orange. This is the legacy I have given my children for serving my government in vietnam for almost 3 years. But, the VA is recognizing diabetes, you are considered exsposed if you were in vietnam, no other proof necessary. The VA will also give you your medicine, insulin and any other items if proven service connected. Don't let them run you around in circles. It took me until 2003 to file for disability. My wife was responsible for me going and supporting my efforts. I also add that I was wounded. I always thought that since I volunteered, they didn't owe me anything, man was I ever stupid.
