Howdy John;

That is an excellent idea. I just found out that the U.S. Postal Service has $10, $20, and $30 phone-card certificates that can be purchased at any post office. You do not need to know the name or address of the recipient--the cards are sent to a chaplin who doles them out according to need.

I can't think of any better way to show our support for our men and women in uniform. Strange, the program has not hit the national news media yet. As a Vietnam veteran, I can recall how important it was to remain in contact with friends and family, but in those days it was done by snail-mail and our letters did not require a stamp; they were marked "Free" in the upper-right corner.

I urge everyone to purchase one the next time that they go to the post office. You may never know who gets the phone card, but so what? It's a good thing to do especially at this time of year.
