Hello As a Vietnamese Canadian went by that area (Binh Thuy) on the way to Long Xuyen in late 2002, that area is now a civilian river port area and further away is export-processing industrial zone. I am not sure if you can recognize the area because it is crowded with houses,people and traffic flow now that Cantho-Binh Thuy road section is dangerous with frequent traffic fatalities. Cantho was recently upgraded to city status (just like Saigon and Da Nang in former part of South Vietnam) and the construction of a new suspension bridge to cross the (lower)Mekong River at Cantho (to replace the ferry) will start soon. The most modern and probably most expensive suspension bridge in Vietnam, cross the (upper) Mekong River near Vinh Long, was completed a few years ago. If you go now, you will take the nostalgic ferry trip across the Mekong River to reach Cantho. Do not miss the boat trip to floating market and the fruit orchards. Have a good trip.
