I stumbled across this terrific site today, and have to tell you the memories came flooding back. I was at Eakin from 1 Nov 66 to 4 Sep 67. I remember the mess hall well. It was a club arrangement--Vietnamese ran it, and one of my neighbors was a veterinarian who inspected all the food. It cost $100 MPC per month for three meals a day, and there was always plenty of fresh produce shipped in from Da Lat. I remember Ben Xe Moi and the Mekong restaurant. The pictures on your site don't show the grenade lattice that was up when I was there. I heard the VC learned to wrap the grenades with fishing line and hooks so the grenade would get caught on the lattice and go off, so they were getting rid of it.
Thanks for a great site.
