Terry;
I am really glad to see another guy from the 156th to check in…there are not too many of us. I really hope that life has been good for you since the Can Tho days; God certainly has blessed me.
My last weeks in Can Tho, I cursed the Army for ordering me to Rothwesten, West Germany rather than to a home site. Given my sorry situation, I began to dream of owning a VW bug and beginning a new life with the girl back home. I left Can Tho in May '68, married Marcia, arrived with a bride to the cool climes of Rothwesten, and began to drive a bug. Rothwesten turned out to be very sweet duty, proving once again that I should not have questioned wisdom of the Army.
I have sat in the seat of a VW bug every morning and said "Good night, Marcia" every evening for 36 years. We share our lives with two loving sons, the world's best daughters-in-law, and a totally great 11-month-old grandson. Not only do I drive a bug, but I now can retire from a one-job-career of working with them.
I was an MP guard for the 156th. I worked at the operations hotel in town and on the airfield perimeter with some really fine guards. My time with the 156th overlapped yours by only 1 month, but surely you remember me. I was the really cool one.
God bless you, Terry. Check back in from time-to-time.
