And now, the rest of the story! After we got a whole S-load of newbies we had to start running our own convoys to Saigon. Couldn't get 1st Log to do it for us. Went out on I don't remember how many without commo, air cover or authorization. No thanks, no nothing was ever given to any of us who did the convoys. Too bad for the guys, they did a lot of work and suffered some hard time. We all volunteered for the duty. The only thing I ever got was a ration of S--t from the 1SG. Got so mad at him I was a clean shaven whisker from blowin' him away. I always kept my .45 cocked and locked and when he walked into the club that ole Colt jumped right into my hand. Somebody grabbed me, McGowan or Ray Thompson maybe. Next day I got an Art. 15 and got restricted for 90 days. Guess what? Another convoy came up and when I refused to go the CO vacated my 15. One of the guys wrote about performing perimeter protection duty. I was the MP NCOIC when that started. Same old stuff, got a commitment with nothing to perform it with. Scrounged up some M60's and did some trading with the AF at BenSeMoi (sp) to get five cans of ammo (5,000 rds per) they used to load up their Puffs.
