Francis: I think you must have two incidents confused here because the 235th didn't wear Class A's or wear black hats. That was probably a Cav unit with their black Stetson's. I was a platoon leader and later the XO of the company and I don't ever remember seeing either black hats or Class A's (except of course when somebody might be going/coming on R&R.
As far as classified manuals, to the best of my knowledge there were no manuals on the Cobra that were classified.
