One night right after the 271st moved to the "other side", we were on guard since the wire wasn't up yet. Freed and meck were in the revetment bunker. Freed was walking the flightline with the shotgun while Meck held down the fort while sitting on the revetment. Meck dropped his helmet and it landed with a BOOM on the PSP. Freed ran back toward the bunker. Someone in a bunker got on the guard phone (what did we call it?) and said they saw someone running on the flightline toward the bunker. Meck got his M16 up just in time to see Freed come round the corner with his shotgun up..... ...fortunately they both froze and we ended the night peacefully. I could always see things crawling toward toward my bunker toward the end of the night.
