I was NCOIC in charge of the commcenter on the base during the last year of my 25 months in CanTho and I remember the ammo dump getting blown up by our own guys. I was working a 12 hour shift from 7PM until 7AM and I remember that it was around 11 o'clock at night when it happened, if it was the same incident. We thought the base was under attack and we rigged all the crypto gear with incendiary grenades just in case we had to destroy them. Two of us stayed in the commcenter while the rest of the crew hit the bunker outside the commcenter. Seemed like the explosions went on for a long while. There were no windows in the commcenter, so we did not know, at the time, what was going on.
